On a recent trip to California to visit my oldest, dearest (like a sister) friend I found myself on the other side of the Life Stories Remembered,LLC camera. My friend interviewed ME about my own life story.
I have interviewed people about their lives for over 10 years and never experienced what it was like to be the person telling the story. I had prepared for it, as I encourage my clients to do, and found it to be fun, insightful and in many ways profound. By nature I am a reflective person but to share my life experiences, with the understanding that they would be viewed by younger members of my family, gave me a different perspective.
When my teenage grandsons watched the video they were amazed that their grandma really had a life before becoming a grandma and especially enjoyed hearing about my own teenage escapades!
While I hope to record many more chapters of my life in the future I felt a level of contentment as I was able to preserve these important memories and share my values and priorities as my legacy.
